American Yacht Club Sets a Leukemia Cup Regatta Record
RYE, N.Y. (September 24th, 2016) – American Yacht Club held its first Leukemia Cup Regatta in conjunction with the 2016 Fall Series. The primary goal of this regatta was to raise funds to support blood cancer research and patient outreach. The final numbers have been tallied and American Yacht Club has officially set a record for the first year hosting a Leukemia Cup Regatta by raising over $140,000.
This event was Co-Chaired by AYC members Jim and Judy Wilson. Judy is a survivor of Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia and helmed Team Gleevec to raise over $31,000. Tickets for the Saturday night dinner and live auction sold out and the AYC clubhouse was filled to maximum capacity.
This year’s Fall Series brought an increase in the number of competitors among various fleets due to these charitable efforts. However, sailors who participated in the regatta were not the only ones to get involved. An impressive showing of non-sailing participants also came down to AYC in support of the event.
AYC’s Leukemia Cup Regatta combined premiere racing on the water with an exceptional clubhouse experience. Although there was light wind to start, the weekend provided gorgeous weather for all those who participated on the water. There was also a strong showing of one design boats for this regatta with over 40 teams combined. American Yacht Club is extremely proud to have hosted this regatta and help support such a worthy mission of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
